A CELEBRATION of the LITTLE STATION THAT COULD*

*Or – “What’s the big deal about TSN 690 Radio anyway?” – Gerry Frappier

Maybe next time we’ll be seen and heard in real time. Then again, I know quite a few people who still would not have been able to (virtually) party with us because they were at the long awaited Chris Stapleton concert at the Bell Centre on the same night.

Thanks again to James Correa and Spirited Productions for shooting hours of footage to be able to bring you this highlight pack of special moments from our delayed anniversary party at Fairmount Theatre.

It was the first time I walked on stage with professional musicians already playing behind me (“Green Onions”) as I got ready to introduce a Montreal indie super group assembled by drummer Howard Bilerman of hotel2tango. Other than the odd glance at a lyric sheet it’s difficult to believe that Jake, Murray & The Good Grief had never played together.

But that was just one of many, many highlights now ready to be seen and heard. From the tireless work of Claudine Cook of ALS Quebec to PJ Stock and his heartfelt thanks – and hysterical backstage banter – to the men who helped keep the station breathing and a salute to the departed who helped provide the heartbeat including Ted Blackman who I miss more and more with each passing day, to the raucous, gritty, poetic, joyful, soulful, bluesy and thrilling live music that is as much a part of the station’s history as an unexpected live blockbuster trade announcement – it’s all here. Both Teds would be very proud.

The magnificent heart tugging montages that bookend this feature speak to the passion and creativity of my Chomedey Greek soul brothers-in-arms Jay and Andrew Farrar.

If you couldn’t celebrate with us, or even if you did but missed out on something because you hung out on the sidewalk recalling stories with old workmates that you hadn’t hung with in decades, now you can. All over again.

Until the next time. Enjoy.
