To all who were part of the overflow crowd at Club Soda on Friday night April 6 for the Southern Soul and Rock ‘N Roll Revue, the latest event presented by Billy Bob Productions, we can’t thank you enough. From the incredibly talented (and mostly local) musicians to the superb Club Soda staff to the many people who spread the word, it was an incredibly joyful experience.
Please check out the fabulous photo album courtesy of Tim Snow. And the latest Melnick ‘N Murphy podcast takes you behind the scenes.
Before we get to the full set list I’d like to acknowledge and thank a few people without whom this and other Billy Bob Productions main events would not be possible.
Shane Murphy was not just a performer who played three different sets but he was the bandleader as well. He ran one single rehearsal prior to soundcheck (Thanks to Allan Hogson and Tony Colgan and CNS Studio). I hope we get to see the band (names below) together again. Shane was also responsible for the stage plot. Many a weekend breakfast meeting with Shane turned into the Southern Soul and Rock ‘N Roll Revue.
Howard Bilerman again put together an all star collection of hotel2tango artists just for the occasion. But they had such a good time paying tribute to Muscle Shoals (while leaving several gems on the rehearsal floor) they just might have to do it again in their own setting before the end of the summer. Howard is a tremendous source of music knowledge and incredibly supportive of whatever it is we decide to do.
Special thanks as well to Rubin Fogel, Arlene Slavin and the team at Club Soda, especially Isabelle-Marie Longpre, Yves Moquin, Simon Vaillancourt, Lyne Duguay and Michel-Jo Edmond Paquin. Plus the tech crew assembled by Shane were stage manager Dave Surette, assistant stage manager and guitar/amp tech Andrew Sudlow and drum tech Joe Rabbit. Once again Kesh Dheer worked the projection screen.
Everybody on hand was well fed thanks to LeBaron Bites Catering. Stuart LeBaron was a non-stop machine. Thank you Stuart. http://lebaroncatering.ca/
Thanks to everybody who helped spread the word, includng Bill Brownstein, Walter Lyng, Elias Makos and BTV, Laurie Deer, Jake Lawrence and everybody at K103, Simon Fauteaux & Six Media, Tim Salhany at Cult MTL and especially my friends at Bell Media who could not have been more supportive – Martin Spalding, Chris Bury, Mathew Wood, Randy Renaud, Bilal Butt, Terry DiMonte, Esteban Vargas, Jason Rockman, Sharon Hyland, Aaron Rand, Robyn Flynn, Natasha Hall, Kelly Albert, Ken Connors, Dan Laxer, Andrew Carter, Sarah Deshaies, Conor McKenna, Rod Francis and Stephane Giroux.
Thanks to Lloyd Fischler and Gary Silverman.
Mitch Garber finally made it out. Thank you Mitch. Lorne Rubin too. And Stewart Rubin at Embassy Suites Montreal.
Artist management including Doug Tackett at Road Dawg Touring (GTBB), Brian Slack at Zeb Productions (Dawn Tyler Watson), Rene Martel at Les Productions Bros (Paul Deslauriers Band), Todd Littlefield at Diesel Management (Jonas Tomalty & Corey Diabo) and Joey Griffin (John Jacob Magistery). Thanks as well to Brian and The Montreal Blues Society.
Terozian Karim, with help from Shane, designed the beauty of a poster. Once again our pal Leonard Yelle printed them (plus the postcards) and hustled his way all over the island to distribute and post.
My youngest daughter Phoenix suggested (urged) I open the show with the 18 year old sister of her best friend. One listen to Anjelica Falls was all it took.
Thanks to Kelsey Brunette for handling the guest list. And, as always, Allyson Rennie.
Most of all, thank you for filling up Club Soda and your continued support of Billy Bob Productions. We plan on another series of shows, including our first foray into comedy, over the next year culminating in our fourth major event in late 2019. Stay tuned.
