Basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal says he is thinking about running for office, telling an Atlanta TV station that he will try to become sheriff in 2020.
O’Neal didn’t say where he would enter a sheriff race. He currently has a residence in Florida and Georgia.
He is already an honorary deputy in an Atlanta suburb, and has been a reserve police officer in LA, Miami Beach, Tempe, Arizona and Doral, Florida. Even with his limited experience, Shaq thinks he could make it work by surrounding himself with the right people.
In 2017 nothing really surprises me anymore. It is not the first time that someone running for office said that despite their lack of experience, they would surround themselves with the right people. It is hard to give a definitive answer yet on how that has worked out but I do have a gut feeling. In this case, Shaq would be the sheriff and somehow the thought of him yelling ” There is a new sheriff in town” makes me smile. I actually do believe that he’s doing this for the right reasons. I am just not sure how they are going to retrofit a hat that can fit his mug….
